BACKGROUND

Teo was a stray dog in ShiHng, Kyunggi-do.

TEO IS...

Teo is a small dog with strong ego and personality. He meets challenges and is not easily backed down. He loves to be with his human and his furry friends. He bolts out tirelessly and barks in happiness when he is with his friends. He will also be a good guard dog since he has a high sense of protection of his family.

SOCIABILITY WITH PEOPLE

Teo is a little shy and on guard firstly with strangers but he quickly warms up. Then he becomes one of the most fun dog to have around. He approaches and jumps on people for a nice pet. (We have tried to replace his jumps with sits and have been successful somewhat). Then he suddenly starts to rub himself against the rug for minutes! He loves to sit and wait for yummy treats (getting better with "wait"). He learned to like his crate in the living room. So he eats his meals and sleeps at night in his crate. He loves to sit next you on the sofa and cuddled. I know he would love to sleep together in the bedroom, which I have allowed scarcely because there are many jealous dogs. It is endearing to watch him resource-guarding me (not too much, just enough to be lovely) or coming to the bedroom to say good morning. He is a lovely small dog with lots of ego and energy.

Teo has not been with small children. He would be okay, based on his personality and behavior toward people.

SOCIABILITY WITH DOGS AND CATS

Teo is great with dogs. He is like a live wire with his playmates. He runs and wrestles with his friends. He chases after a thrown toy (he is quite competitive). He does so with the dogs of his size but he also plays equal to much bigger dogs. He became a vital center of the action in my house quickly.

Teo gets along much better with female dogs and seems to react to male dogs initially. We had our male dog Otto returned from the trainer's. They met for the first time in the livingroom. (We should have let them met in a neutral place.) Otto was not particularly interested in Teo. But Teo was. He barked, growled and even tried to bite Otto from behind. Nothing happened because Otto did not respond. These behavior went on for several days with its strength decreased with time. Teo also resource-guards his foster mom (rescuer, me) against other dogs; no fights though. So far, most of Teo's aggression has been more on the show. Now, after 2-3 weeks after the introduction, Teo plays with Otto. But it might be different with small male dogs who are more amenable by Teo.

Teo has not seen any cats since his rescue.

ENERGY / ACTIVITY LEVEL

High

THINGS TO KNOW FOR A LIFE TOGETHER

  • House broken? Yes (I recommend to use the manner band for a week or so. A male dog could start marking once he is in a new surrounding or with another male dog).

  • Training? Good with 'come', 'wit', and 'wait'.

  • Leash training? Not bad but he is an impulsive runner (jolts). Thus a harness might be good for him.

  • Shedding? Average

  • Barking? A lot (He barks at delivery guys. He also barks when he gets excited in a good way)

  • Appetite? Good

  • Separation anxiety? Unknown

  • Mischief? None

  • Motion sickness? Almost none for short drive (< 30 min).

SPECIAL NEEDS

None

IDEAL HOME

Preferably a home with an active play mate for the better.

--------------

Teo's Stray Dog Notice.

Teo came with partially groomed state by the staff at the pound. They stopped grooming him since his fur was matted but the weather was getting cold quickly.

After Teo's first bath. His facial fur and some matted fur was trimmed.

Teo does this a lot; rubbing himself against a rug.

Teo with Bailey (a slightly intimidating big female dog). Teo is competitive and is not easily backed down.

Teo is often an instigator for a play.

Teo loves off-leash walks and hiking. He may wander around (for hunting I think) but he comes back eventually. His face is in ecstasy when he is on the run off-leash.

Teo is a cute little boy. He was a little shy first but he already has become the integral part of the pack; he befriends and plays with most dogs and he guards my house, although he is the smallest dog. I'm happy that he feels that my house is his. I appreciate his loyalty.
