BACKGROUND

Blue was a stray sapsaree from OSan city. He is a beautiful blue sapsaree. Still he was not adopted, probably because he was heartworm positive. He was going to be put down at the end of July. We contacted the pound, postponed his due date and rescued him on August 2nd, 2022.

BLUE IS...

Blue is an attractive dog with beautiful eyes and high intelligence. He is matured, calm, good-natured dog. He is sociable with both people and dogs. But if he has to choose one as his companion, he will probably choose people. He will be a wonderful companion whose life is woven with that of his owner, if he meets the owner who understand this side of him.

SOCIABILITY WITH PEOPLE

Blue loves people. He approaches total strangers and asks for a pet. He follows people around and rests where people are (ex. sofa, bed, desk). He prefers to sleep in the same bedroom too. Blue needs to be with someone who could give the attention he craves.

SOCIABILITY WITH DOGS AND CATS

Blue gets along well with most dogs. He also approaches new dog and plays with them too. He, however, might compete with male dogs initially. He may engage himself into a series of motions to set hierarchy from following the other male dog, staring into eyes and putting his head over the shoulder of the other male to direct mounting. But he always listen to your saying 'No'. For Blue, the relationship with people seems to matter the most. He is also very good in coming back to you on calls even if he is in the middle of doing something he likes.

ENERGY / ACTIVITY LEVEL

Average

THINGS TO KNOW FOR A LIFE TOGETHER

  • House broken? Yes

  • Training? Good with "come", "sit" and "wait"

  • Leash training? Okay except at the start of walks.

  • Shedding? Low

  • Barking? Low

  • Appetite? Extremely good (I set the amount of kibbles by the softness of his stool)

  • Separation anxiety? Unknown but unlikely

  • Mischief? None

  • Motion sickness? Yes (he starts salivation quickly and may vomit if the ride gets long)

SPECIAL NEEDS

None

IDEA HOME

Any home would be fine for our beautiful Blue! He is fine as a single dog or as a brother to another dog in the house. He will be sad if the other dog gets most attention from the owner, though. He is a people-oriented dog.

Blue's Stray Dog Notice

Just rescued on August 2nd, 2022. He must have been on the streets for a long time if not neglected. His coat was in a bad state of matts and tangles. It must have been a hellish summer for him since it was very hot and humid from intermittent rains lasted more than a month.

We had him shaved soon after his rescue. His happiness of getting out of his matted fur was obvious. He was a good, calm, patient boy from the start.

I see a border collie in his eyes. Am I wrong?

Blue at the vet for his heartworm treatment.

Blue at the trainer's. Blue had been at the trainer's for 2 months, not because he had behavioral issues but because there was no place at the rescuer's home. The trainer told me Blue was closed up for a few days initially, then he opened up and was playful with most dogs. His calm manners and his intelligence made him a quick learner according to the trainer.

After 2 months at the trainer's, Blue came back to the rescuer's home.

Blue is good with leashed walks. Of course, he pulls a bit at the start and when the other off-leash dogs run past him out of excitement. Most of the time he does not pull hard and he listens to minor corrections.

He really loves off-leash nature walks. His face lights up with pleasure and happiness. He does not leave the pack off-leash. He always comes back on calls even if he was roaming leash free.

Blue passionately chases after a laser pointer beam.

Blue likes toys. He can be competitive about toys.

Blue is more interested in people. But still he enjoys rough plays with other dogs.

Blue is very good with basic commands like "sit", "come", "wait". In this video there are two dogs (white and black dogs sandwiching Blue) who are very competitive for treats. Blue handles the situation very well, not reactive to either of them.

Blue is a very nice dog. He is friendly with other dogs but he is more into people. A good owner who is wiling to spend time with him will be amply rewarded by his devotion and loyalty.
