BACKGROUND

Chippy was abandoned in front of a house wearing a green harness. He was attached to the fence with two leads, a clear indication of a will to abandon. Thus the pound staff let us to rescue him even before the end of the period of a lost dog notice. We have not heard from the pound since. Thus there was nobody looking for him.

CHIPPY IS...

Chippy was said to be “happy and friendly” by the pound staff. But he seemed nervous and exhausted when I first met him. He, who is high-strung from the start, has been going through a very stressful time since his abandonment in mid April. About a month at the trainer's, he is a little better but still he seems a little nervous and highly excitable. He will calm down once he is in a stable environment.

SOCIABILITY WITH PEOPLE

Chippy loves people. He greets and comes to you even if he sees you for the first time. I could see a bit of fear in his eyes sometimes (I think he probably was abused by his previous owner). He quickly gets over it and wants to play with you. He wants to be with you all the time. He will love to kiss you and be cuddled by you.

He has such a strong desire to be with you that he used to jump at people and nip at hands or fingers in excitement (watch the video). He is better now but still he does it. Thus I taught him to "sit and wait" using a clicker (watch the video). He responded very well. My friend noticed that he was calmer after just 2 sessions. Thus if you keep trying (training), he will be better. In general he is a very good pupil with his strong desire to please people, huge appetite and smart brain!

He does not show any interest in children.

SOCIABILITY WITH DOGS AND CATS

Chippy is friendly with dogs too. He plays well with either a big or small dog (watch the video). He will react to the attitude of the other dog; if the other dog dog is aggressive, he will meet the challenges. If the other dog is friendly and playful, he will be friendly and playful.

Chippy has not been with a cat.

Chippy's Stray Dog Notice

He was found bound to the fence of a house shown in the image.

Chippy was pulled out from the pound and driven 3 hours to get to the place shown below. He was exhausted and nervous. He was driven another 3 more hours to get to the foster home where he stayed a week before he was sent to the doggy hotel (there was no space for him at the foster home).

Chippy is unstable and nervous. It is no wonder because he was abandoned on April 19th, 2022 and has been on the move constantly since then. After his rescue on April 23rd, 2022, he stayed a week at the foster home. Then he was neutered and moved to a doggy hotel. After staying at the hotel about 40 days, he moved back to the foster home. After a week at the foster home, he left for San Francisco to join Woofies Rescue.

Chippy, greets people and anxious to please (April 26th, 2022).

Chippy faces the challenges of a big dog. Both Chippy and Eddie are rescued on the same day (April 23rd, 2022). Thus they were housed together. Initially they tried to show which one is the top by mounting and a little bit of quarrels. Chippy showed that he was not an amenable guy. Eventually they got along in a few days (The video was taken on April 27th, 2022).

Chippy stayed at the doggy hotel from May 1st to June 12th. There were lots of dogs at the doggy hotel. He got along fine wit most dogs. But he was in constant excitement (See below).

Chippy returned to the foster home on June 12, 2022, because his flight to SF is on June 17, 2022.

He showed a significant progress even during the last 6 days at the foster home. Here it goes.

Chippy got along very well with most dogs, big and small.

Chippy loves toys. He jumps, runs after a thrown ball or frisbeem and retrieves them but he does not give it back to you. He loves to collect his favorite toys on the cushion he favors.

Chippy is really smart. This video shows the first session of training for "Sit and wait". Chippy's default state is one of excitement, jumping and clinging to people. Thus we taught him sit and wait with a clicker. Initially we had a little difficulty in make him to focus on the training. But yummy treats allows him to learn commands. He has a great potential for training due to his eagerness to please people, huge appetite and smart brain.

Chippy and Bella left for SF together on June 17th, 2022.

Chippy is a fun little boy to have around in any family. He is a kind of pup that your presence alone makes his day bright and shiny!
