Hugo was a stray dog in a remote island called UlLeungDo, located east side of Korean Peninsula. It took coordinated effort from 5 people to pull him out and move him to the foster home.

How worthwhile our effort was, though! Hugo turned out to be a lovely dog. He is healthy, active, friendly, loving, cuddly, gregarious, playful and a good eater. There is only pure joy and goodness in his eyes. He would be a perfect companion dog for an active sociable family.

Hugo came with one of the worst matted fur. He must have been on the street or neglected for a long time. We named him after "Hugo Boss" because he looked like a boss wearing a heavy fur coat when we first removed the matt from his head.

Hugo is sweet with people. He loves to be hugged, caressed and cuddled by people. He would love to sit or sleep next to people. Initially he was friendly with both men and women. But he started barking at men since 2-3 weeks after his arrival. It was a big surprise because he was so good with the male volunteers who moved him from the island to the foster home. Is it because now he has a house to guard? Or is it because he stayed with only female(s) at the foster home? Whatever it is... he will overcome his fear of men if he sees the same men over and over.

Hugo is also very friendly with dogs. As a mature male dog, he will face the challenge of another male dog. But he is not an aggressive dog and he quickly turns into a playmate. He runs, wrestles, engages in a tug-of-war, and mock-fights like a kangaroo. He is a good follower, not a leader. Thus he can be a good partner with a dominant dog in the house. Hugo will do great in a house with a yard and an active playmate.

Hugo is crazy with food/treats. He used to be impatient to wait for his turn for a treat. But now he learns "sit" and "wait" and he is pretty good now. He gets easily scared, thus he will listen better if you give these commands in a playful tone.

Hugo used to do marking both in the yard and indoors. With neutering and the use of manner bands, he quickly stopped marking. However he may start making again if there is another male dog in the house.

Hugo is okay during car rides without clear motion sickness, although he hasn't been on the car many times. He is okay during leashed walks though he may pull a bit initially. He loves off-leash nature walks and he won't leave the pack. Hugo loves squeaky balls. He may bark to the mail man.
