BACKGROUND

A neighbor found JangGoon (JG) chained in the yard of an empty country house in Jeju island in Jan, 2021. He was left behind when his owner moved out. I have not seen JG at this time. But he could have been the worst matted fur I've seen. He was never combed or walked, chained 24/365 for his entre life at that time. Then the neighbor saw him and contacted the local rescue group. They gave him a much needed grooming and had him neutered. Neither the rescue group nor the neighbor could not find a home for him. Thus the neighbor took care for him chained in the same house for a few months until we rescued him in June, 2021.

We also did not have a place for JG. Thus he was sent to the trainer’s as soon as he arrived from Jeju. At the trainer’s, a major behavioral issue was found – aggression toward other dogs. He attacked without any signal when a friendly German Shepherd dog approached him for a greeting. Later on the same day, he repeated the same with another friendly dog. So started his days at the trainer's, must longer than we planned. It has been 11 months when the trainer finally gave us an okay to adopt him out.

JANGGOON IS...

JG is a charismatic alpha-type male dog. He is type of dog who wants to be in charge. Thus he is likely to take over if the owner doesn't. With this tendency in mind, JG is wonderfully loving, friendly, surprisingly cuddly, obedient and handsome dog. He can be a loyal loving companion with the right owner.

SOCIABILITY WITH PEOPLE & OTHER ANIMALS, TRAINING

He loves people. Perhaps too much. The target of his aggression is usually big dogs that interacted with the trainer (touch, training, combing, etc). He attacked big challenging dogs usually. He attacked new dogs too. He also participated in a fight started by other dogs. Thus the training was focused on stopping a fight when he was told. At the same time, he was given a thorough obedience training.

After 11 months of such training, JG was finally able to restrain himself. We had precautions before he joined us, because we had dogs in our pack with all sorts of temperament from being timid & shy to bold & aggressive. To our surprise, JG did not show any aggression since he joined us. He is rather timid and stressed in my opinion. His playmate is mostly Teddy who also had stayed at the trainer's and returned together. When the play gets too rough, they quarreled, which never developed into a full fight, because both of them stopped on their own or at my command. It has been only 2 weeks since JG joined us. But I have a full trust in him for not initiating a fight.

JG is very curious about cats. He may hunt them.

---------

This is how JangGoon looked like when he was found by his neighbor in Jan, 2021.

JangGoon's first grooming, given by the local rescue group in Jan, 2021.

JangGoon rescued by us and sent to the trainer's in June, 2021.

JangGoon received heartworm treatment in late June, 2021.

JangGoon returned from the trainer's on April 30, 2022, after 11 months of training.

He got tested for heartworm on May 7th, 2022. Heartworm-negative!!!

JangGoon seems more matured than I thought. He could be close to 5-6 years. He is also stressed by his leaving the trainer's, which is understandable. He lived at the trainer's for 11 months. He might think that he was abandoned again. He refused to eat for the first few days. Now he is slowly adjusting to his new life.
